Guest blog – Ft. Yates (Standing Rock) blessing

Ft. Yates, N.D. (September 21, 2011) – I was involved in coordinating the visit of the totem pole and its crew and found meeting each of them was very moving.

It is a group of impressive people making an amazing journey. It was a privilege to spend time with them.

George Iron Shield delivered the blessing to between 50-75 attendees. Iron Shield is a military veteran and participated in the color guard as well. The local Albert Grass VFW Post served as the color guard.

It was interesting to hear the stories behind the making of all of the carved figures in NLM’s Healing Totem as well as some tales about carving totem poles.

This was a memorable experience. It made for a fun day on campus that gathered a number of people to see something that most have heard about, but never seen.
